Have no doubt, elections will take place, says Nepal PM Prachanda

Kathmandu, February 7

Prime Minister Prachanda has asked all concerned not to raise doubts over his government’s commitment to conducting elections.

The Council of Ministers has already requested the Election Commission to start preparations for elections, he noted while speaking at a programme at the EC Secretariat on Tuesday, assuring concerned sides that polls will indeed take place. Speaking at the programme on use of electronic voting machines in the polls, he said poll preparations have already begun. He said his government is trying to conduct polls by incorporating the concerns of dissatisfied parties.

Prachanda stressed the need to conduct elections by using EVMs, expressing confidence that people are savvy enough to cast their votes using EVMs.

At the programme, EC had showed how to use new EVMs. Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav said EC is in favour of conducting what he called ‘paperless elections’, referring to the use of EVMs in upcoming elections.
