Kathmandu, January 4
The government has recently extended the rights of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), entrusting them with the management of 27 mountains.
During a Cabinet meeting held last month, the right to oversee these 27 mountains was renewed for five years. This renewal follows a similar grant of management rights to the association in 2018.
NMA is actively involved in the promotion and management of various peaks, including Chulu East (6,584 m), Hiunchuli (6,434 m), Mera Peak (6,470 m), and Lobuche (6,090 m). In addition to promoting these peaks, the association is also responsible for royalty collection.
Notably, the association plays a vital role in managing smaller mountains, serving as valuable training grounds before climbers attempt higher peaks.
As part of its ongoing efforts, the association has expressed the desire for the government to expand the number of mountains under its management.
