Kathmandu, June 16

National Human Rights Commission has called Nepal government and Nepal Police to launch an effective investigation into the reported rape of a verbally-challenged woman in Chandrauta, Kapilvastu district, take legal action against the accused after the probe and provide free medical treatment to the victim. It has directed NP to brief it about its findings.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the constitutional rights body said it has written to the Office of the Attorney-General, Nepal Police Headquarters and Armed Police Force Headquarters about the case.

A team from NHRC’s sub-regional office in Butwal is monitoring the case. NHRC has called stakeholders to help with the probe.

Local people have accused some APF personnel from APF’s Vindhyavasini Battalion of tying hands and feet of the woman from Naudihawa and throwing her into a bush in the afternoon, and raping her later, some days ago. Police have arrested one of the accused, APF Jawan Lokraj Wasti, for a probe.
