Kathmandu, July 31

CPN-Maoist Chair Prachanda, the contender for the post of Prime Minister, has told President Bidhya Bhandari that formation of a national unity government is impossible, for now.

Prachanda said this during a meeting Bhandari, who gave parties a seven-day deadline (which expires on Sunday), with top leaders of three major political parties in the morning.

At the meeting, President Bhandari inquired about efforts aimed at building political understanding and suggested them to work for consensus.

Due to the Nepali Congress’ policy and the CPN-UML’s stance on not joining government, chances of a consensus government taking shape are minimal.

Prachanda, on his part, said he had discussions with political parties about the possibility of building political consensus. He pointed: Due to the Nepali Congress’ policy and the CPN-UML’s stance on not joining the government, chances of a consensus government taking shape are minimal.

Nonetheless, he said parties are serious when it comes to national issues. There will be an understanding on these issues, Prachanda said.
