NEPSE: Stock market surpasses 2,700 points with increased trading volume

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index crossed the 2,700-point mark on Tuesday, responding positively to new leadership at the Nepal Securities Board.

The NEPSE index rose by 33.41 points, closing at 2,716 points, compared to the previous trading day. Trading volume also saw a significant uptick, climbing to Rs 7.44 billion from Rs 6.34 billion on the prior day.

Prices of 211 companies increased, 32 declined, and one remained unchanged. All sectoral indices recorded gains, with Banking up by 1.20%, Development Banks by 0.49%, Finance by 1.51%, Hotels and Tourism by 0.64%, Hydropower by 1.97%, Investment by 1.13%, Life Insurance by 1.02%, Manufacturing by 1.08%, Microfinance by 0.85%, Non-life Insurance by 0.81%, Others by 1.68%, and Trading by 1.29%.

Notably, three companies saw a 10% surge in their share prices: Support Microfinance, United Idi Mardi Hydropower, and Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower. Mithila Laghubitta Financial Institution recorded a 9.6% increase, Upper Hewakhola rose by 8.8%, and Maya Khola Hydropower advanced by 8.6%.

Conversely, Three Star Hydropower’s stock plunged 10%, while Karnali Development Bank, recently flagged as distressed by Nepal Rastra Bank, dropped by 8.4%. Samudayik Laghubitta fell by 8.1%, and Best Finance declined by 6.1%.

In terms of trading volume, Nepal Finance, Ngadi Group Power, NRN Infrastructure, Karnali Development Bank, and Janaki Finance led the market.
