NEPSE drops by 9.32 points, trading volume nears Rs 6.5 billion

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) experienced a decline on Thursday, with the index falling by 9.32 points (0.43 per cent) to close at 2112.29, following a three-day rise.

Despite the drop in the index, trading volumes increased significantly. Investors who had previously driven up prices of newly listed hydropower and other companies with limited share supply booked profits, pushing the trading volume close to Rs 6.5 billion.

Throughout the trading day, 77,400 transactions were completed, involving 14,294,712 listed securities, amounting to a total trading volume of Rs 6.44 billion. Notably, Nepal Finance recorded the highest trading volume at Rs 284.7 million, followed by NRN Infrastructure and Development at Rs 205.8 million, Samriddhi Finance at Rs 175.6 million, Sadhana Laghubitta at Rs 129.9 million, and CEDB Hydropower Development Company at Rs 129.1 million.

There was a significant interest in finance companies with deteriorating financial conditions. The finance sub-index saw the highest growth at 2.03 per cent, while the development bank sub-index increased by 1.31 per cent.

However, all other sub-indices recorded declines. The manufacturing and trade sub-indices each fell by 1.03 per cent, and the non-life insurance sub-index dropped by 0.83 per cent. The banking sub-index, a key market leader, also decreased by 0.43 per cent.

On Thursday, shares of 246 listed companies were traded. Among them, 148 companies saw a decline in share prices, 93 companies experienced price increases, and 5 companies remained stable. Samriddhi Finance and Kutheli Bakhari Hydropower saw their share prices rise by 10 per cent, and Sadhana Laghubitta’s share price increased by 9.99 per cent, reaching the positive circuit limit. Additionally, shares of Saptakoshi Development Bank rose by 9.82 per cent, and Barahi Hydropower by 9.74 per cent.

Conversely, shares of Mid Salu Hydropower fell by 10 per cent, hitting the negative circuit limit, while Bhagwati Hydropower’s shares dropped by 8.27 per cent and NRN Infrastructure and Development Company’s shares decreased by 7.78 per cent.
