Kathmandu, December 9
Nepal’s Grand Old Party, which has been under tremendous pressure after parliamentary poll results showed a clear wave in favour of the opposition Left Alliance, has won its first seat in Kathmandu-1 constituency.
The party’s Prakash Man Singh, the son of late leader Ganesh Man Singh, won the seat by around 700-odd votes. He secured 10,967 votes. His closest competitor Rabindra Mishra of Bibeksheel Sajha Party received 10,298 votes.
Mishra, in a statement, said he has congratulated Singh for his victory and thanked his voters for their support. He added that the immense support the party, which is just a few months old, received from voters shows that voters are in deed in favour of change. He said that his party will win more seats than expected in the PR system.
