Nepali Congress, Madheshi parties fail to materialise partnership

File: A meeting between Nepali Congress and Rastriya Janata Party Nepal

Kathmandu, November 2

Despite month-long negotiations, the Nepali Congress has failed to build an election alliance with two major Madhesh-centric parties: Rastriya Janata Party Nepal and Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal.

After the negotiation bids with the Congress failed, the two regional powerhouses are partnering with each-other for the polls.

The three parties had discussed three models of partnerships–contesting jointly in all constituencies of the country, contesting jointly in constituencies where the leftist alliance has a strong influence, and cooperating for each other parties’ top leaders. However, they could not agree on any model.

Consequently, both Congress and RJPN-Forum alliance have announced candidates for all 32 federal and 64 provincial constituencies of Province 2.

Interestingly, Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi is fighting against RJPN’s Rajendra Mahato in Dhanusha-3. RJPN’s Sharad Singh Bhandari has to face Congress leader Kiran Yadav in Mahottari-2.
