Nepali Congress lets House resume business, says it’s watching CIAA

Pushpa Bhusal

Kathmandu, February 11

The main opposition Nepali Congress party on Tuesday ended the obstruction in the House of Representatives, arguing its obstruction was genuine and necessary.

The party had been obstructing the House meeting since Thursday last week after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority indicted the opposition parliamentary party’s deputy leader on a corruption charge. The party has been claiming that the decision was prejudiced and Gachhadar was framed for being an opposition leader.

Speaking in the House today, the party’s whip Pushpa Bhusal said the party, hence, had been watching the commission closely though it lifted the obstruction after drawing the attention of the legislative. She accused the government of influencing the constitutional body as the government spokesperson reportedly considered the commission’s decision as an achievement of the government.

Bhusal said the party would continue its protest against the commission as it was influenced by the government.
