Nepal PM Prachanda should unveil letter to Modi, to prove he’s not going Lendup Dorje way: NWPP lawmaker Prem Suwal

Kathmandu, September 5

The ‘controversial letter’ that Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ allegedly sent to Indian counterpart Narendra Modi consumed the Parliament’s time and energies of lawmakers on Monday as well.

Speaking in the House, lawmakers continued to demand that the government make public the letter that PM Prachanda sent with his deputy Bimalendra Nidhi, who recently visited India as PM Prachanda’s special emissary.

Prem Suwal, lawmaker from the Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party, raised a serious issue in the House.

He said: People worry that Prachanda may become (another) Lendup Dorje. For dispelling such concerns, the government should make the letter public through the Parliament.

In 2004, Prachanda wrote a letter to then PM of India, Atal Behari Vajpayee. Indian Professor SD Muni made it public later. Will some other Indian have to make this letter public?

Suwal reminded the House that Indian Professor SD Muni had made public the letter that Prachanda, in the capacity of Maoist leader spearheading an uprising, had written to then Prime Minister of India, Atal Behari Vajpayee, in 2004. He said: Will some other Indian have to make this letter public?

‘Through his letter, PM Prachanda has assured India that Constitutional amendment will ensure the creation of one or two province in Tarai-Madhesh and allow naturalised Nepalis to hold constitutional positions like President.’

He went on to claim that PM Prachanda, through his letter, has assured India that Constitutional amendment will ensure creation of one or two province in Tarai-Madhesh and allow naturalised Nepalis to hold constitutional positions like President.

‘People fear the present PM of Nepal may turn into ‘Lendup Dorje’.  We hope he will do no such thing, that’s why we want the letter to be made public.’

Because of these things, people fear that the present PM of Nepal may turn into ‘Lendup Dorje’.  We hope he will do no such thing, that’s why we want the letter to be made public.

CPN-UML lawmaker Harka Bol Rai had also urged the government to make the letter public and Prime Minister Prachanda to attend the Parliament to respond to lawmakers’ questions about the letter.

However, it’s not only opposition parties that are demanding disclosure of the secretive letter through the House.

‘If Nepal’s PM has indeed written such a letter to his Indian counterpart, he should make it public in the Parliament.’

Lawmaker from the ruling Nepali Congress, Ram Hari Khatiwada, also said: If Nepal’s PM has indeed written such a letter to his Indian counterpart, the government should make it public in the Parliament.

He said: If PM has written no such letter, parties should not raise this issue for political consumption.
