Nepal opposition parties rallying to Capital’s nerve centre from 40 points, roads to be in utter chaos

uml-810 Kathmandu, January 6

The road traffic management is likely to go haywire on Friday, with nine opposition parties under CPN-UML leadership set to organise a protest assembly in the Capital.

Protesting parties will take out rallies from 40 places and organise a mass gathering against the Prachanda government by building a podium in the middle of the road at Exhibition Road, Kathmandu. Currently, CPN-UML activists are busy building the podium.

As per the plan, rallies will arrive at Ratnapark at 1 pm, meaning there will be chaos on the roads.

Yogesh Bhattarai, chief of the party’s Publicity Department, told Onlinekhabar that the main protest rally will begin from Ratnapark at 1.30 pm.

Of the 40 rallies, UML-aligned organisations will take out 30 rallies, while 15 UML election committees based in the valley will stage separate rallies of their own, the party informed. Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur district committees will take out their own rallies and so will liaison committees of the party.

Parivar Dal, Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party, Rastriya Janamorcha and CPN-ML will also take separate rallies. They all will converge at Ratnapark.

Under the leadership of KP Oli and other top leaders from the opposition parties, the main rally will begin at Ratnapark and turn into a mass gathering at Exhibition Road after passing through Old Buspark, Bhadrakali, Shahid Gate, New Road Gate, Bhotahiti, Bagbazar and Putalisadak.

This means one thing: The traffic management system of Kathmandu will go haywire.
