Nepal has recorded its first dengue death this year.

A 35-year-old woman from Kailali died of the disease on Tuesday, informed Lal Bahadur Dhami, the chief of Kalilali District Heath Office.

“The hospital confirmed she had dengue. She was also suffering from lungs-related issues,” Dhami said.

Even though Kalilali District Heath Office informed the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division over the phone, the division says it is yet to receive an official report.

According to the division, since January, 2,827 people have contracted the virus as it has spread in 72 districts in the country.

Lalitpur records the highest number of cases as the number has crossed 1,000 while numbers are also increasing in Kathmandu, Rupandehi, and Dhading among others.
