The Nepal Army have won a gold medal in a British military exercise. Soldiers from 34 countries had participated in the Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2019.
The team led by lieutenant colonel Asim Dev Gurung return home with the gold medal recently. They had gone to the United Kingdom on September 23.
Nepal Army spokesperson Bigyan Dev Pandey says 34 teams from 34 countries and 106 teams from the British Army had participated in the exercise.
Nepal Army have been taking part in the annual event since 2014.
According to the British Army website, the fundamental criteria used to assess the performance of the patrol is by determining whether or not it completes the various tasks and achieves its mission. Around 70 percent of the total marks are covered by military skills, whereas orders and debrief cover around 15 percent each.
In military skills, the soldiers are evaluated for dismounted close combat skills, obstacle crossing drills, first aid and CasEvac procedures, recognition of aircraft, vehicles and equipment among others.
