A total of 18 schools from Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts were damaged in the Bhotekoshi flash floods that occurred on August 26. Among these, 11 schools were destroyed, recording a loss of Rs 937 million. The Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (RDNA) report prepared by the National Planning Commission and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) showed the amount of damage incurred to schools.
A total of 56 buildings in 18 schools were affected. As many as 152 rooms received partial damage, and 156 rooms were destroyed. In Rasuwa, the schools damaged by the devastating floods were one from Gosaikunda Rural Municipality and three from Uttargaya Rural Municipality. Nine schools were damaged by the floods in Budur Municipality of Nuwakot. Galchhi Rural Municipality of Dhading suffered damage to three school buildings, while Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality from the same district suffered damage to a school.
A school in Siddhalek Rural Municipality in Dhading district also suffered loss, with its four buildings damaged in the disaster. For the reconstruction of the damaged schools, the government would require approximately Rs 4.23 billion.
