Nakkhu Prison escapee held in Gongabu, caught selling fake gold as real

Kathmandu, September 13

A man has been arrested on charges of defrauding someone of NPR 1.39 crore by passing off fake gold as real.

The arrested man is 28-year-old Anish Thapa Magar, a permanent resident of Siddhicharan Municipality-1, Okhaldhunga, currently living at Naya Buspark, Kathmandu.

He was arrested by a team from the Gongbu Naya Buspark Police Circle.

Thapa Magar had defrauded a victim of NPR 1.39 crore by claiming fake gold was genuine.

Kathmandu District Police Office SP Danbahadur Thapa said 865 grams of fake gold were also recovered from him.

The Kathmandu District Court has remanded him in custody for five more days. He is a convict in a rape case and had escaped from Nakkhu Prison during the Gen Z movement.
