Nepal 11th biggest source of international students for US universities

The number of Nepali students at various universities of the United States has increased by 14.3 per cent this year, states the US government.

According to the Open Doors report made public by the Institute of International Education and the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, total 13,270 Nepali students are studying in the US.

Nepal has become the 11th biggest source country for US-based international students. Nepal’s immediate neighbours, China and India, are in the first and second positions on the list respectively.

Nepal was in the 13th position last year.

However, Nepal recorded the highest growth rate (14.3 per cent) among 25 biggest source countries. Following Nepal is Brazil (11.7 per cent).

But still, the rate is lower than the rate of last year. The 2017 report had mentioned the 20.1 per cent growth rate of Nepali students, which was the highest that year as well.
