Kathmandu, December 17
Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has signed power purchase agreement (PPA) with 52 hydropower projects in the first five months of the current fiscal year.
According to NEA spokesperson Prabal Adhikari, the total installed capacity of the projects is 1,051 megawatts.
He adds that all the projects are being built with private sector investment. The NEA has urged the projects’ promoters to mobilise financial resources and start construction.
The NEA plans to sign PPA with 12 more projects with a total installed capacity of 70 MW in the near future.
The government’s target is to generate 15,000 MW power in the next 10 years, making the country self-sufficient in energy.
