NCP puts off secretariat meeting again

Nepal Communist Party office in Dhumbarahi

Kathmandu, August 14

The ruling Nepal Communist Party has put off its secretariat meeting once again.

For the past few weeks, the party has failed to hold the secretariat meeting which is expected to pick leaders for its internal departments. The meeting called for Wednesday afternoon got postponed after the leaders could not forge an agreement on who will lead departments of youth, workers, and women.

Two chairmen of the party–KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal–have already agreed that the three departments would be led by the leaders of the former UML side. Six leaders of the nine-member secretariat who represent the former UML side sat for a discussion to pick the department heads this morning, but could not forge consensus. Hence, they convinced the other leaders to postpone the meeting.

It has been learned that Oli proposed the names of his close aides Bishnu Rimal, Mahesh Basnet and Goma Devkota respectively to lead departments of workers, youth and women, but senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal opposed.

The secretariat meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday now.
