Buwa, a short film by Kamal Subedi and his team, has won first prize in the Ncell Short Film Competition organised by Ncell Pvt. Ltd. on the theme of ‘father’ on the occasion of Kushe Aunshi that Nepalis celebrate as the Father’s Day.

The main aim of this competition was to promote budding young talents in film making. With over 70 entries from all over Nepal, the panel of judges selected 10 best filmers and winners. The jury included QFX Cinema founder Nakim Uddin, filmmaker Asif Shah and journalist Bidhya Chapagain.

The top 10 short movies were screened amid a premiere show at QFX Cinemas, Labim mall, Pulchowk on Wednesday evening. It was attended by artists, celebrities, veteran figures from Nepali film industry, partners and press.

“It is a very good talent that they have been able to share stories in such a short time. This is a medium to learn and I hope to see them in the big screen in future,” said veteran artist Hari Bansha Acharya in the premiere show.

On the same event, best short filmmakers were announced and awarded with the attractive prizes. Ncell’s Chief Technology Officer Muhammad Adeel Israr handed over the prizes to top five movies.

“The panel of judges selected winners based on how effective the story was and how it had been presented. Since they are amateurs, we did not go too much into technicalities,” said Shah, a jury member.

The first team won Rs 100,000 cash prize and 10 GB data for free every month for the next year for three members of the team.
