Ncell partners with BYD distributor to bring connected vehicle services to Nepal

BYD - Ncell

Kathmandu, August 18

Ncell has partnered with Cimex Inc, the authorised distributor of BYD Auto Industry Company in Nepal, to provide connected vehicle services in the country.

Under the partnership, every BYD vehicle sold in Nepal will be equipped with an Ncell Internet of Things (IoT) SIM, giving customers a more digitally connected driving experience.

The partnership further strengthens Ncell’s position in IoT innovation in Nepal and reflects the company’s continued efforts to promote connected technology across different sectors.

With the IoT SIM built into the vehicle, customers will be able to access in-vehicle internet connectivity without requiring an additional device. The connectivity will support the BYD app ecosystem and connected infotainment features.

“Users will be able to access online services and digital entertainment such as YouTube, Spotify and karaoke directly through the vehicle’s system without connecting their phones or relying on a Wi-Fi hotspot,” Ncell said in a statement.

It added that the availability of such features would depend on the vehicle, software model and services available in Nepal.

Customers will also be able to benefit from Ncell’s nationwide network coverage through the IoT SIM. However, the user experience may vary depending on network coverage, location and vehicle configuration, similar to the experience of using Ncell’s network on a mobile phone.

The partnership is expected to bring features related to smart connectivity, infotainment, safety and intelligent mobility to BYD vehicles.

Speaking at the agreement-signing ceremony in Kathmandu, Ncell Chief Consumer Business Officer Upang Dutta said the partnership would provide direct vehicle connectivity for the BYD app and popular infotainment services.

“This will help users stay connected without depending on external hotspots or mobile data,” Dutta said. “Whether you are on the road or stuck in traffic, connecting directly to the local network will also help ensure more reliable navigation.”

The partnership marks another step towards expanding IoT-based connected mobility services in Nepal.
