2024 BYD M6: Simple and modern 7-seater electric MPV launched in Nepal

BYD has launched the 2024 BYD M6 in Nepal. The 7-seater electric Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) is the successor to BYD’s other popular electric MPV, the BYD E6. The M6 was first launched in July in Indonesia. It is also available in India as the BYD eMax 7.

Cimex Nepal, the authorised distributor of BYD cars in Nepal, launched the BYD M6 at the BYD International Balloon Festival 2024 held in Pokhara. With the addition of the M6, BYD now has four electric cars in its lineup: the BYD Atto 3, BYD Seal, BYD Dolphin, and the BYD M6.

The older generation E6 and the new M6 have some major differences, including design, performance, range, and seating. The E6 has 5 seats, whereas the M6 is a 7-seater. Even though there are not any MPV competitors in the segment, the M6 will compete against other electric cars in the same price segment.

Design

Exterior

The design of the BYD M6 is very similar to its sibling, the BYD Atto 3. It shares the same Dragon Face 3.0 with a more modern touch. The Dragon Face 3.0 grille is wide, with a shiny chrome accent bar for a touch of class. The sleek LED headlights are sharp and flow smoothly into the grille, creating a modern, eye-catching look. The hood and fenders have smooth, flowing lines that make the car appear sleek and aerodynamic. It also has functional side air intakes in the front bumper, which adds to the EV’s efficiency.

The BYD M6’s side profile is sleek, with smooth lines flowing from the front to the back, giving it a sense of motion and elegance. The line along the side flows from the front to the back, making it look longer. The design is aerodynamic to reduce air resistance. The large windows make the cabin feel bright and spacious, adding to the comfort of the design. The alloy wheel gives the MPV a more modern and sophisticated look.

The rear of the BYD M6 is very clean and modern in design with stylish and practical features. The full-width LED taillight bar stretches across the back, giving it a bold and premium look with intricate lighting details. A sleek roof spoiler enhances the sporty appearance and integrates a rear brake light for added safety and visibility. The sculpted rear bumper features reflectors and a subtle diffuser, adding to its aerodynamic and dynamic design. The shark fin antenna on the roof gives a modern and refined touch, while chrome accents around the taillights and the BYD logo add elegance to the overall design.

Interior

The interior of the BYD M6 is designed with modern features and practicality, which delivers optimal comfort and convenience for passengers. The front dash is sleek and organised, featuring a well-integrated and simple design. The three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, combined with the electric power-assisted steering system, provides smooth handling and easy access to essential functions.

The BYD M6 features a digital instrument cluster that is a 5-inch TFT full LCD display that offers clear, modern visuals for essential driving information. The infotainment system includes a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen, allowing seamless access to apps, media, and navigation. Below the screen, the AC vents are situated. The climate control is integrated into the infotainment system, which gives it a modern and practical use. The centre console of the BYD M6 is functional, featuring a gear selector, parking controls, two cup holders, and an armrest with storage underneath. It balances practicality with convenience, making it suitable for daily use.

The front seats of the M6 are upholstered in synthetic leather and come with 6-way electric adjustment for the driver and 4-way electric adjustment for the passenger. Both seats are ventilated for added comfort. The rear seats are arranged in a 2+3+2 or 2+2+2 three-row seat configuration depending on the trim option. The middle-row seats can split 6/4 or be used as independent seats, while the rear seats fold down for more storage.

The MPV also has a panoramic sunroof, which allows natural light to enter the cabin. The boot space of the BYD M6 is practical and versatile. With the third row of seats up, it offers 180 litres of space, suitable for smaller items. Folding the third row down expands the boot capacity to 580 litres, making it ideal for larger loads or family trips.

Performance

The BYD M6 delivers reliable performance with its AC Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, producing a maximum power of 100 kW and a torque of 250 Nm. This front-wheel-drive (FWD) provides smooth acceleration, reaching 0-100 km/h in 11.9 seconds. The BYD M6 uses the in-house BYD Blade Battery, which has a large capacity of 71.8 kWh, delivering a range of 440 km (WLTP), making it suitable for both daily commutes and longer journeys. As for charging, the M6 supports both AC and DC charging. As for DC fast charging, it takes just 40 minutes to go from 0 to 80%, while AC charging requires about 11 hours for a full charge with the 7.2 kW AC charger.

The BYD M6 has McPherson strut suspension at the front and the multi-link setup at the rear as the suspension setup for a smooth ride. The braking system includes ventilated discs at the front and a multi-link design for the rear for reliable stopping power. The EV features 255/55 R17 tyres paired with alloy wheels, giving a good grip and enhancing the overall driving experience.

Safety and Features

The BYD M6 is equipped with advanced safety features to protect passengers and enhance driving confidence. It includes front, side, and curtain airbags for both the front and rear, ensuring maximum protection in case of an accident. Seat belts with force limiters are provided for all rows, along with a seat belt reminder system for both the front and rear. The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) helps maintain proper tyre pressure, while ISOFIX points ensure the secure installation of child seats.

For better control and stability, the BYD M6 comes with features like an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), a Traction Control System (TCS), and Hill Hold Control (HHC). It also includes Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), and Lane Departure Assist (LDA). Additional features like the Around View Monitor (AVM), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), and Predictive Collision Warning (PCW) make driving safer and more convenient.
