Kathmandu, February 6

The National Assembly is all set to endorse the Media Council Bill on Thursday.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota informs that the plan to pass the bill is in the work schedule of the National Assembly today, followed by a discussion on the bill.

In the bill, the provision of penalising the media outlets, journalists and publishers Rs 25,000 to 1 million if found guilty for character assassination will be dismissed.

The bill was all ready to be passed from the Upper House last Sunday. However, the National Assembly chair Ganesh Prasa Timalsina had removed the bill from the agenda that day, following the decision of the Business Advisory Committee.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives will also hold a meeting at 1 pm today.
