National Assembly candidates to get election symbols today

File: Election Commission

Kathmandu, January 29

Candidates contesting the National Assembly elections will get their poll symbols today as per the schedule made public by the Election Commission.

Earlier, 83 candidates from nine parties had registered their names for 56 positions representing seven provinces.

Some candidates, however, have withdrawn their names. Likewise, the Commission has cancelled nomination of a candidate. Therefore, the Commission will publish a final list of candidates before distributing the symbols today.

Nearly half of 56 positions are likely to be elected unanimously. However, their election will be announced after the publication of final list of candidates today itself.

Total 2,056 voters including provincial assembly members and chiefs and deputy chiefs of local government will cast their ballots to elect three women, one Dalit, one minority ethnic group member or person with disability and three others in each province.

The voting has been scheduled for February 7.
