National Assembly candidates filing nominations

National Assembly Election Office in Biratnagar, Province 1

Kathmandu, January 24

Candidates representing various political parties are filing their nominations for the National Assembly elections scheduled for February 7.

The Election Commission says registration of candidacy is underway at seven election offices set up in Biratnagar, Janakpur, Patan, Pokhara, Dang, Surkhet and Dipayal. The Commission has established one office in each province and voting will also be held accordingly.

Total 56 members of the 59-member upper House will get elected representing seven provinces (eight from each province). The eight members will represent four clusters (three women, three others, one Dalit, one minority and people with disability).

Provincial assembly members and chiefs and deputy chiefs of local governments will cast their ballots, as per the constitution.

Three other members will be appointed by the President.
