Kathmandu, September 26
The Narayangadh-Muglin road section, which had been blocked by a massive landslide at Tuiun Khola in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-5, Chitwan, has reopened for two-way traffic.
According to the Bharatpur Road Division Office, the highway became operational at 10:35 pm on Thursday after clearance work was completed. The section had remained completely obstructed since around 4:30 pm on Tuesday, September 23.
Although clearance work began only on Wednesday morning, it was not completed until late Thursday night. Workers had to continue operations under floodlights to remove the debris. More than five bulldozers were deployed to clear the 160-meter-long landslide.
The obstruction had caused significant hardship for travelers, with long traffic jams building up along the route. Authorities have said it will still take some time before vehicles can move smoothly.
As the highway serves as a vital lifeline connecting Kathmandu, its closure created major difficulties for passengers, especially during the Dashain festival period when many people were traveling to their hometowns. Stranded travelers were forced to wait on the road for hours.
Officials noted that unless another landslide occurs, traffic flow should remain normal. The Tuiun Khola area has seen repeated landslides in the past, often blocking the highway.
