Kalapani controversy: Supreme Court orders govt to present Nepal’s official map

The Supreme Court has ordered the government to present before it the official map of Nepal within 15 days. It has also asked the government to produce before the bench a copy of the annex of the Sughauli Treaty delimiting Nepal’s borders. A bench of Justice Hari Phuyal issued the order in response to a writ petition filed by a group of lawyers led by advocate Bishwa Prakash Bhandari demanding that the court order the government to amend the constitution to include a new map of Nepal with Kalapani and Limpiyadhura territories occupied by India.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari announced the launch of the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign amid a ceremony at the Dasarath Stadium on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, President Bhandari said that the world’s highest peak Sagarmatha and the birthplace of Gautam Buddha Lumbini were the best tourism destinations in the world. Although Nepal struggled due to internal conflict in the past years, it has moved on and is heading towards prosperity, added Bhandari.

NOC hikes fuel prices

The state-owned oil monopoly NOC has hiked the price of petrol and diesel. According to the new price, which came into effect from Wednesday night, petrol and diesel now cost Rs 111 and 100 respectively. The prices of cooking gas and ATF have not been increased.

Nepal Police can now investigate terror financing

Nepal Police has also been authorised to investigate into cases of terror financing. An agreement was signed to this effect between Nepal Police and the anti-money laundering department. According to the agreement, the department can write to Nepal Police to coordinate investigation into cases of money laundering. The agreement allows Nepal Police to investigate international terrorist organisations said to have been active in Nepal.
