PM treatment to take one more week

PM KP Sharma Oli, who is currently in Singapore undergoing plasmapheresis, will be in the island nation for one more week, according to his advisor Bishnu Rimal. Rimal said that the PM’s health was normal and the treatment was going well. PM Oli left for Singapore on August 22 after the antibody level in his body was high.

Constitution Day holiday to celebrate Nepal, not to party: Minister Baskota

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota on Wednesday said that the government had given a holiday on the Constitution Day to celebrate the day with vigour, not to party with friends. He said that the government was planning to celebrate the day in a grand manner and urged people to come forward and celebrate the day as a festival. “We haven’t given a holiday for people to drink beer or go on dates. We hope people understand that,” said Baskota to the press on Wednesday.

Govt wants to run a communist state: Deuba

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has accused the current government of trying to make Nepal a communist state. Speaking at a programme in Lalitpur, Deuba said that the government was forgetting the principals of democracy and heading towards communalism. He also accused the government of being against democracy, press freedom and human rights.

PM’s interest halts milk price hike

The new price of milk has been put on hold after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli showed interest in the work being done by the concerned committee. The Agricultural Ministry has planned to raise the price of milk by August 18, but that has been put on hold upon request from the PM Oli, sources say. The task force formed by the ministry had proposed to raise the price of milk by Rs 10 per litre.

Bangladesh and Kuwait get new Nepali ambassadors

Nepal has appointed new ambassadors to Bangladesh and Kuwait on Wednesday. President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed Banshidhar Mishra as Nepal’s ambassador to Bangladesh and Narad Nath Bharadwaj as Nepal’s ambassador to Kuwait. Both Mishra and Bharadwaj were recommended by the Council of Ministers.

Lawmakers against giving DCC more power

Lawmakers have shown concern in the new law which aims to give a lot of power to the District Coordination Committee. A committee of the National Assembly is currently discussing the bill which is aiming to give more power to the DCC. Lawmakers are arguing that the bill would give the DCC more power than what is stated in the constitution.

Lawmakers Ram Narayan Bidari has said that giving them such power would contradict the constitution and asked the committee to remove such provision. He argued that DCC which was given the role of coordinating within the local levels should not be made a constitutional council by giving it the power to work outside of the district.

Two bills passed by Province 3 Assembly

Province 3 Assembly has passed two bills on Wednesday. The assembly passed the bill on right to information and bill on forest protection with the majority votes.
