Lamichhane supporters at Chitwan High Court

DAO restricts public gathering around Chitwan District Court

The Chitwan District Administration Office has restricted the general public from demonstrating outside the District Court. This comes after supporters of TV presenter Rabi Lamichhane started staging a protest outside the court in the past week. To make sure there are no protests, the DAO has restricted public gathering of more than five people around the court premises.

Meanwhile, the court has said that it will hear the case on Monday and will decide if Lamichhane along with Yuvaraj Kandel and Asmita Karki will be released or will still be put in custody. All three have been charged for provoking the suicide of journalist Shalik Ram Pudasaini.

CAAN says conference spread positive message to the world

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has said that it has been able to prove to the world that Nepal’ aviation sector had made a significant improvement in the past few years. CAAN says that the recently held aviation conference proved to the outside world that Nepal had improved significantly in the field. Director-General of CAAN, Rajan Pokharel, said that CAAN received positive comments in the conference. Pokharel also added that he also held talks with officials from the European Union Safety Agency regarding the lifting of a ban on Nepali airlines on the EU’s airspace.

Nepali agricultural produce won’t be tested in India

The government has put an end to the process of Nepali vegetables being sent to Kolkata in India for quality tests. The process has been ended after talks between the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control of both countries. According to the agreement, ginger, cardamom along with 21 other agricultural products do not need to be tested while being exported from Nepal to India. Nepali farmers can now test their products in a lab in Kathmandu, Birgunj, Biratnagar and Bhairahawa and send their produce to India. India has said that it will accept the certificate provided by the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control of Nepal.

Will not give recognition to cash salary: Minister Bista

Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista has said that the government will not be giving recognition to the salary given in cash. Minister Bista says that the government taking this step to promote transparency and digital transactions. He further added said that the government would be taking necessary actions against those companies who do not follow this procedure.

NOC to take action against the petrol pump located in a house

Nepal Oil Corporation has started the process to take action against a petrol pump in Balaju which is located in a house. The petrol pump has been running against regulations for the past six years. A committee has been formed by NOC to monitor the case further.

The NOC says that it feels that it was a serious issue and it is investigating the case in detail. The committee has been given three days to submit its report. The name of the committee members have not been made public. After the committee submits its report, the NOC will write to its Thankot depot to stop supplying fuel to the petrol pump.

Journalist Giri free

Journalist Arjun Giri, who was booked by police for cybercrime, has been acquitted. Giri was arrested by the police after he wrote news alleging Bipendra Raj Batas of real estate fraud. A single bench of Judge Binod Kumar Pokharel acquitted Giri. Giri had written the news after two people filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Pokhara against Batas. Giri is the editor of tandavnews.com.

Two high court judges resign

Two judges being investigated by the Judicial Council have given in their resignation. The Judicial Council had started an investigation against three judges of Pokhara High court after they gave a controversial verdict in the Gorkha Brewery tax evasion case. A single bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana had asked the council to investigate judges Jiwan Hari Adhikari, Ram Chandra Yadav and Nar Bahadur Shahi for making a decision breaching their jurisdiction.  Of the three, Adhikari gave in his resignation last week while Yadav offered his resignation on August 22. Both say they did no wrong in the case.

NC lawmakers propose amendment to Police Adjustment Bill

Nepali Congress has proposed an amendment on the Police Adjustment Bill. The opposition party has said that police who will be adjusted to the provincial level should be promoted by one level. However, the bill passed by the House of Representative has said that police will be promoted by two levels. The bill has been sent to the legislation committee for discussion.
