PM Oli refuses to give up party chairmanship

A dispute has arisen in the Nepal Communist Party as senior leaders are in disagreement over who is to lead the party. Senior leader Madav Kumar Nepal during Sunday’s secretariat meeting said that PM KP Sharma Oli should vacate his post as party co-chair to concentrate on running the government. But PM Oli said that he will not be leaving any of this posts any time soon. PM Oli was backed by party co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Even though Dahal had been pushing the same agenda, in the meeting on Sunday he backtracked, informed sources close to Nepal. This dispute started after PM Oli proposed to designate Janalath Khanal third position in the party’s pecking order, to the dismay of Madhav Nepal.

Senior leader of NCP Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that the decision to demote his rank within the party was an act of revenge. Even though he was not happy about the decision, he did not comment during the meeting. However, he did ask for other senior leaders such as Asta Laxmi Shakya, Bhim Rawal, and Yuvaraj Gyawali to be promoted to the secretariat as he felt they were more senior than those in the current secretariat.

S Jaishankar to come to Nepal on August 21

Indian External Minister S Jaishankar will pay a two-day visit to Nepal from August 21 to participate in the fifth meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission. The meeting will be co-chaired by Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali. The two leaders will review the bilateral partnership in the field of connectivity, trade, power, and education. Jaishankar will also call on President Bidya Devi Bhandari and PM KP Sharma Oli during his stay.

Will restore all heritage monuments during my tenure: Mayor Shakya

Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya has said that all heritage monuments destroyed in the earthquake will be restored during his tenure. Mayor Shakya made such a huge promise while handing over Rs 10 million for the restoration of Buddha Vihar in Bhrikutimandap. He said that he would do everything he could to make sure that the heritage monuments we restored. Shakya added that he would seek help from the provincial and central government.

Lawmaker Yadav withdraws resignation

Lawmaker of Samajwadi Party Surya Kumar Yadav has withdrawn his resignation. Samajwadi Party chief whip Umashankar Arabariya informed that Yadav withdrew his resignation on Sunday. Citing health reasons, Yadav had offered his resignation on August 12 however, his party was continuously asking him to reconsider his move. There were also talks of his position as lawmaker going to controversial leader CK Raut.

Five Biplav leaders arrested

Five leaders from Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party have been arrested by Nepal police in Jhapa. Raju Das, Sagar Limbu, Narpati Paudel, Yam Yogesh Limbu and Ganesh Karki were arrested by a special force deployed by District Police.

DGCA conference starts today

The 56th Director Generals of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Conference is being held in Kathmandu from Monday. With a theme of ‘Harmonising Efforts to Meet the Challenges of Capacity Constraints’, Nepal is hosting this conference for the third time. Prior to this, the conference was held in 1976 and in 1998 in Nepal. The major objective of this event is to maintain cooperation and harmonisation among countries of the Asia Pacific region to ensure safe, secure, efficient and economically sustainable development of civil aviation, said Trilochan Poudyal, information officer of CAAN.

CIB team in Chitwan to investigate Pudasini suicide case

A team of officers from the Central Investigation Bureau have reached Chitwan to investigate the death of Shalikram Pudasini. CIB which comes directly under the IGP Sarbendra Khanal will conduct its own investigation. The team is being sent because it is a sensitive issue informed an official at CIB. According to him, the police had found more evidence from Pudasini’s mobile phone.

Pudasini before killing himself had shot a video in which he blamed TV presenter Rabi Lamichhane, journalist Yuvaraj Kandel and nurse Asmita Karki. All three were arrested and are being kept at Chitwan jail.

Keshav Raj Jha murder: Police take bodyguard into custody again

Police have arrested Keshav Raj Jha’s bodyguard Kancha Raja Tamang again. Metropolitan Crime Division confirmed that they arrested Tamang from Kavre on Sunday after Jha’s wife had filed a complaint against him.

Kathmandu Police DSP Hobindra Bogati informed that Tamang will be kept in custody for seven days the case against him is of culpable homicide. Jha was killed in his own resident a year ago. Police had arrested Tamang, however, released him after they didn’t find any evidence to book him for murder. Police also informed that a polygraph test had created confusion as Tamang did not do very well in it.
