Monsoon-induced disasters killed 111 in Nepal: Govt

Kathmandu, July 26

Floods and landslides triggered by incessant monsoon rain in the last few weeks have claimed 111 lives in Nepal, the government said on Friday.

In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affair’s Emergency Centre said while 40 people have gone missing, 67 have been injured by floods and landslides across the country.

According to the ministry, most number of people lost their lives in Gulmi where 13 people are reported to have died. Simlarly, in Rutahat, 10 people have lost their lives to rain-induced disasters, said the centre’s chief Bed Nidhi Khanal. A total of 58 people have died in floods while 45 people’s death has been attributed to floods and incessant rain.
Government figures show that property worth over a billion rupees have been destroyed in the disasters, which have affected 64 of the 76 districts.
