Kathmandu, September 2
Now, the registration and monitoring of foreign tourists visiting Nepal will be carried out through an electronic system.
The Department of Immigration has announced that it has developed a foreign national registration and monitoring (tracking) system with the objective of ensuring the security of foreigners visiting Nepal, facilitating access to information, preventing possible crimes, and supporting the promotion of Nepal’s tourism sector.
According to the Department, in the first phase, starting from September 17, the system will be made mandatory in star hotels within the Kathmandu Valley.
In the second phase, from November 17, the system will be implemented in all star hotels, airlines, tour and travel companies, and money exchange outlets.
“Thereafter, it will be enforced in all types of hotels, guest houses, and other public and private institutions providing services,” the Department stated.
The Department has requested all public institutions and private companies providing services to foreign nationals to mandatorily be part of this system.
According to spokesperson Tikaram Dhakal, the system is being implemented as per the Department’s decision on Monday.
He said that through this system, records of the stay and activities of foreign nationals entering Nepal will be systematically maintained.
“It is believed that the system will facilitate search, rescue, and ensure security in times of emergency,” said Dhakal. “It will also make the process of information sharing between security agencies, tourism entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders more effective, ultimately contributing to the safe and well-managed development of the tourism sector.”
The Department has also provided information on its website regarding the procedure to be affiliated with the system.
