Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai has argued that Kathmandu city should revive its nighttime activities during the Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign in order to retain foreign tourists in the capital.

“The capital goes to sleep at around 5 or 6 in the evening,” Bhattarai said during a meeting with chiefs and officials of local governments inside Kathmandu district on Wednesday, “But, let’s make the nightlife here alive during the Visit Nepal Year. Let’s illuminate our temples.”

The minister urged local governments to carry out a study exploring the possibility of operating a bus service to connect major heritage sites in the valley. He also appealed to all local leaders to support the campaign.

Speaking on behalf of the mayors, Kathmandu metropolitan city’s Bidya Sundar Shakya suggested that the government focus on the campaign’s international promotion, assuring his city government would actively involve in the campaign.
