Maoist Centre for political solution to National Assembly election row

A meeting of the CPN-Maoist Centre Central Office.

Kathmandu, December 18

The CPN-Maoist Centre, one of two constituents of the leftist alliance preparing to take charge of the government, says a solution to the existing debate over the formation of National Assembly should be sought politically.

The alliance has secured majority seats in recent House of Representatives elections and hence is eager to take charge of the Cabinet whereas Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has been insisting that the polls of National Assembly must be over to hand over the power. On the other hand, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has refused to issue the National Assembly ordinance as recommended by the Cabinet citing lack of political consensus and Deuba has accused the opposition alliance of trying to provoke the head of state.

In this context, the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led party held a meeting of its Central Office today and concluded that political parties should forge a consensus over the electoral system for the upper House so as to resolve the issue.

The party’s spokesperson Pampha Bhusal says the party urged top leaders of major political forces to hold discussions for consensus.

Meanwhile, the meeting decided to take preparations for the government formation and unification with the CPN-UML simultaneously.
