Mahara, Timilsina tell provincial assemblies to work together on new laws

Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara addresses a function in Kathmandu, on Sunday, August 19, 2018.

Kathmandu, August 19

House of Representatives Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara and National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina say legislative bodies of provincial governments should work together with them for formulating new laws as both sides can help each other with their ideas and experiences.

Speaking at a programme in Kathmandu today, cooperation and coordination between federal and provincial legislative bodies would be crucial in new law formulation though they were given different rights and responsibilities by the constitution.

“Federalism is a new experience for us. Therefore, our experiences must be exchanged,” said Mahara. Likewise, Timilsina added, “Such exchanges help us establish a foundation to cope with challenges we may face in law formulation process.”

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, Federal Parliament Secretariat’s Secretary General Manohar Prasad Bhattarai, former speakers Subas Chandra Nembang and Onsari Gharti also spoke on the occasion.
