Days after two chairpersons of the ruling Nepal Communist Party agreed to implement a report submitted by a task force they formed so as to end the months-long dispute in the party, an influential senior leader has objected to the report.

Former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal says the report is unclear and abstract as it does not categorically mention how the two chairpersons exercise their rights in the party. The report has mentioned that “mainly” Pushpa Kamal Dahal will exercise executive rights as the chairperson, and Nepal questions which rights Dahal will exercise while “mainly” exercising executive rights and which others will be exercised by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli as the chair.

Earlier, both Nepal and Dahal had accused Oli of failure to lead the government and the party, demanding his resignation from either of the two positions. The report, however, has concluded Oli does not need to step down from either of the positions.

Speaking in the party’s secretariat meeting yesterday, Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal and Narayan Kaji Shrestha criticised the report. Nepal also presented a 15-point remark, stating the report should be given its full shape by clarifying all unclear points.

Nepal was also not happy that the report stressed on consensus between the two chairpersons, thereby undermining the authenticity of party committees.
