Madhav Kumar Nepal says he is not involved in Baluwatar land scam

Biratnagar, February 7

The former prime minister and senior leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Madhav Kumar Nepal, has clarified that he was not involved in the notorious Baluwatar land scam.

Nepal’s statement comes two days after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority decided not to indict him on the case as the decision he made during his premiership does not fall under the jurisdiction of the commission. The commission had filed a charge sheet against 175 persons including three former ministers on Wednesday.

However, speaking with journalists at the Biratnagar Airport on Friday, Nepal said he did not make any decision regarding the issue during his premiership.

“Noone can escape from the action if they are involved in the illegal act. But, I am not a culprit, I am not a criminal,” he said, “Not engaging in corruption and not letting anyone engage in corruption is a part of my value.”

Claiming that he did not think the commission’s decision tried to frame anyone as accused by the main opposition Nepali Congress party, Nepal said that would be wrong if that was the case.
