Legal gold imports on the decline

Kathmandu, December 24

In the first five months of the current fiscal year, gold imports in Nepal have been recorded at 1,210 kilograms worth Rs 9.97 billion.

According to the import statistics from July to November published by the Department of Customs, the legal import of gold this year has decreased compared to the same period last year.

As of November 2022, Nepal had imported 1,466 kg of gold valued at Rs 10.75 billion. This indicates a decrease of 265 kg of gold worth Rs 78 million compared to the previous year’s gold import, as per the available data.

Until November 16, Nepal had imported 1,000 kg of gold. The Customs data reveals a specific increase of 210 kg in gold imports during November, a period of high consumption, with a total cost of Rs 1.76 billion.
