Lawmakers demand relief to landslide, flood victims

Kathmandu, July 3

Lawmakers have drawn the government’s attention to recent floods and landslides in various parts of the country and demanded initiatives for rescue and relief.
Speaking at the Parliament meeting today, they have further said that the physical property has been damaged and some people have also lost their lives in the natural disasters.

In the beginning of the meeting, lawmaker Binda Devi Ale said that at least three people were killed and many were injured in a landslide in Kaski on July 1 and drew the attention of the government to carry out measures to control the disasters.

Similarly, another lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari said that dozens of settlements of Kaski are at the risk due to landslides and floods.

Saying that 1,500 houses are at risk of inundation and 30 houses have been completely damaged in Tilathi of Saptari, Adhikari demanded the government to carry out diplomatic initiatives for the resolution of the problems surfaced at the Nepal-India border area every year.
Likewise, lawmaker Agni Prasad Sapkota complained that problems have been surfaced in the treatment of 48 injured in road accident at Sindhupalchok on Sunday as the Health Ministry failed to take necessary initiatives in this regard.

He also urged the government to carry out preparedness immediately, saying some places in the district are at high risk of natural disasters.

Lawmakers Dilli Prasad Kafle, Surendra Yadav, Bikas Lamsal, Umesh Yadav, Shiva Chandra Chaudhary and Shyam Kumar Shrestha had also spoken at the meeting.
