Landslides after incessant rainfall obstruct traffic on major highways

A landslide obstructs road in Siddhababa of Palpa along Siddhartha Highway.

Kathmandu, July 2

Landslides due to incessant rainfall have resulted in obstruction of roads and highways across the country since Monday morning.

The Narayangadh-Muglin road in Chitwan has been blocked yet again whereas one-way traffic has resumed on Siddhartha Highway.

The one-way vehicular movement was operated after landslips in Charkilo, Jalabire and Tope Khola along Narayangadh-Muglin road since 5:10 am today. But, that too was halted after a huge rock fell along the section at around 8:00 am.

According to Chitwan District Police Office, a big landslide caused the halt.

The Narayangadh-Muglin road project officials have informed that continuous rainfall is causing difficulties in removing the debris.

Meanwhile, one-way traffic has resumed on Siddhartha Highway.

A landslide near Siddhababa had halted the movement, and operating the two-way traffic will take more time, inform police.

Likewise, a landslide at Headbox of Tinau Rural Municipality-3 in Palpa district at around 11:00 last night obstructed the road. The debris, however, has been removed and one-way traffic has resumed in the area.
