Kathmandu, August 27

A case has been registered against 290 people for their involvement in the Lalita Niwas land case with a claim that these people embezzled Rs 18 billion.

Mahesh Khatri of the District Government Attorney’s Office says that the government attorney registered the case on Sunday based on the report and opinion given by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).

The CIB recommended that the defendants be tried for organised crime as well. However, the government attorney has decided not to prosecute the case as organised crime.

In the year, 1992, 2003, 2005, 2010 and 2012, government land was registered in the name of individuals after the decision of various government agencies.

Since it is an old incident, it has been requested to be prosecuted in accordance with the Civil Code 1963.

The District Government Attorney’s Office has also demanded land confiscation from 52 people. In order to do so, the office has also made these people defendants in the case.

These people have not been charged with forgery, but they have been made defendants for the purpose of confiscating the land because they bought the land connected through others who forged the government documents.
