Kathmandu police detain activists protesting House dissolution

Kathmandu, December 21

Police have detained a group of activists staging a demonstration in Kathmandu against the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

Participants of the demonstration launched by Human Rights and Peace Society were detained in front of Singhadarbar on Monday morning.

The detainees include veteran human rights activist Krishna Padhadi, the founding president of the organisation, Uttam Pudesaini, Krishna Kandel, Kumar Raj Subedi, Bal Bahadur Gaha Magar, Jagannath Pudasaini, Chandra Mani Banjara, Amrit Jung Mahat, Ishwar Pudasaini, Maya Bhattarai, Mahesh Acharya, Bachchuram Sharma, Bikash Thapa, Kiran Dhakal, Chiranjivi Khadka, and Tulsiram Bhandari.

Following the announcement of the dissolution yesterday, sporadic protests have been organised across the country. In many places, the cadres of the ruling Nepal Communist Party are leading these demonstrations.
