Kathmandu, June 16
Kathmandu Metropolitan Police, in the past month, has arrested 82 pickpockets from various parts of the Kathmandu valley.
Police officials, as part of their special campaign, arrested the pickpockets from public transports and made them public on Sunday.
DSP Hobindra Bogati said that police had to take this step because of regular complaints from transport companies and passengers.
Police, along with transport companies, initiated the campaign. Bogati said that most of the pickpockets were caught in the act.
According to law, convicted pickpockets will have to serve a jail sentence of one month and a pay fine. Those who are convicted of pickpocketing for a second time will have to serve a jail term of two months and pay a fine.
Police have filed burglary cases against the alleged pickpockets.
