Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast-track: Parliamentary committee to visit Khokana, Bungmati sections

Kathmandu, October 31

Members of Parliament’s State Affairs and Good Governance Committee are to visit the Khokana and Bungmati sections of the Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast-track, a strategically important road that will connect Kathmandu with the Terai.

A meeting of the committee on Wednesday decided to undertake the visit to address issues raised by local residents of the two areas. According to the committee, local residents have filed complaints saying that their voices have not been heard during the construction process.

“The people of Khokana and Bungmati have said  they have not received adequate compensation for their land. We are going there to ssee what’s going on,” a member told Onlinekhabar.

Krishna Gopal Shrestha, a lawmaker from the Nepal Communist Party, has opposed the idea of visiting the sites. The local people and  officials from the Nepali Army should be invited to the committee’s office, he is learnt to have said during Wednesday’s meeting.
