Kathmandu, August 6

Mohan Karki ‘Jeevanta’, a central leader of the banned Maoist party led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’, has been released. Police in Kathmandu had arrested him on March 15, 2019.

Police had filed a case of indecent assault against him. But, the Chief District Officer of Kathmandu ordered for his release on Sunday, according to Uttam Subedi, chief of the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu.

Karki is the first central level leader of the party since the government banned it in March.

Karki is known as one of the few leaders of the party who advocate for the solution through talks. From police custody, he had appealed for the talks a few days ago.
