The provincial government in Karnali has decided to seal off the province for one week, beginning Tuesday, in its bid to save the province from the coronavirus infection.

So far, Karnali is the only province of Nepal where not even a single case of the infection has been confirmed. However, its neighbours, Province 5 and Sudurpaschim, have many active Covid-19 cases. In particular, the provincial government has been alarmed as 16 cases were confirmed recently in Province 5’s Nepalgunj, a city which is just a few kilometres away from Karnali.

A meeting of the Provincial Disaster Management Centre on Monday made the decision to seal off all the entry points in the province.

Meanwhile, the meeting also directed the local units to document the citizens who recently came there from India or other countries. They will be quarantined and tested for coronavirus.
