Deputy Prime Minister and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Kamal Thapa has warned of not taking part in the local level elections slated for May 14 if the Election Commission does not heed the party’s demand about its charter.
Speaking with journalists in Tulasipur of Dang on Tuesday, the leader said the constitutional body should not have deleted issues of Hindu state and monarchy from the party statute.
He threatened that he would quit both the government and the House if the decision was not corrected.
“We want the Election Commission to rethink its decision,” he said, “If that is not possible, the party will take an appropriate decision at an appropriate time.”
“The party has multiple options from quitting the government to not taking part in the local level elections.”
Last month, the EC had decided to remove the portion that advocates Hindu state and monarchy from the RPP statute claiming the sections contradicted constitutional provisions of republican order and secularism.
Subsequently, the party had announced various protest programmes against the move.
