Rastriya Janata Party Nepal lawmaker Rajendra Mahato has asked the government to apologise for ‘defaming’ him. Speaking in Parliament on Monday, Mahoto warned the government not to spread rumours about him.

Mahato’s comment comes a day after communication Minister Gokul Baskota said the government had scrapped the citizenships of seven people, including a ‘Rajendra Mahato’, without clarifying the address and details of the seven people in question.

Mahato accused the government of acting immaturely. “Isn’t it the government’s duty to mention which Rajendra Mahato it has punished? There are thousands of people with that name,” he added.

He further questioned the government’s intention accusing it of spreading rumours about him. “It seems they were trying to spread lies,” he added.

Lawmaker Mahato asked what would happen if anyone said ‘Krishna Bahadur Mahara’ was a crook and he be put in jail. “The government should know better and apologise immediately. The media should have done some research too before publishing fake news,” he added.
