In a strong show of international solidarity, Irish Ambassador to Nepal, Kevin Kelly, has announced over €500,000 in new funding to support civil society initiatives across Nepal. According to a press statement released by Embassy of Ireland, the funding, provided through Irish Aid’s Civil Society Fund, is part of Ireland’s broader international development programme.

The announcement was made during Ambassador Kelly’s visit to Kathmandu as part of a high-level EU diplomatic mission comprising 21 ambassadors and representatives from EU member states. During the mission, the delegation held talks with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, and key stakeholders from Nepal’s civil society and business sectors.

“This support reflects Ireland’s commitment to inclusive, resilient, and locally led development,” Ambassador Kelly stated. “It also demonstrates the deepening relationship between Ireland and Nepal.”

The statement adds that two Irish NGOs will implement the projects: The Social and Health Education Project (SHEP), which will partner with Sahakarmi Samaj to promote gender equality and youth empowerment in rural districts; and the Irish Red Cross, working with Nepal Red Cross to enhance climate-resilient livelihoods and social inclusion.

This funding forms part of a larger €7.9 million package announced by Minister of State for International Development Neale Richmond TD to support global development and human rights initiatives.
