In NCP’s tug of war, Oli fails to woo Madhav Nepal away from Dahal

Kathmandu, October 21

In the internal politics of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has once again failed to show his strength against the rival faction led by another chairman of the party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

On Tuesday, Oli held a meeting with the party’s senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal for over two hours in his bid to woo him away from Dahal but failed, inform sources privy to the meeting.

The development happens at a time when provincial leaders close to Dahal and Nepal have stayed united against pro-Oli leaders in the Karnali province regarding the dispute surfaced over the no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi.

During the meeting, Oli asked Nepal to stop going to Khumaltar (Dahal’s residence) repeatedly and establish a partnership with him. However, interestingly, Nepal went to Khumaltar on Wednesday morning and decided to strengthen the partnership at least in Karnali.

Just on Tuesday, Nepal had issued a statement protesting the Oli government’s decision to not bear the cost of Covid-19 treatment except for the needy.
