No-confidence motion against Karnali CM isn’t withdrawn yet: Yam Lal Kandel

Kathmandu, October 15

Yam Lal Kandel, the Nepal Communist Party leader who led an initiative to oust Karnali Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi by registering a no-confidence motion against him, says the motion has not been withdrawn yet.

The influential leader’s statement comes at a time when the motion is almost certain to fail with Chief Minister Shahi convincing seven leaders belonging to the Madhav Kumar Nepal faction to withdraw from the plan. With their withdrawal, only 11 lawmakers will remain in favour of the motion, which is not sufficient to remove Shahi from the powerful position.

But, Kandel argues the central leadership of the party has directed them to postpone the process as it is for now, meaning the motion has been registered, but not discussed.

He also claims that the lawmakers close to Madhav Kumar Nepal have also not withdrawn their signatures from the motion, instead someone else is rumouring about the withdrawal.

Meanwhile, Kandel, Shahi and other key leaders of the province are currently in Kathmandu as top leaders summoned them in their bid to resolve the issue.
